In 2018, BigCommerce embarked on a journey to discover to learn more about our customer stories and journeys to success. The result was a campaign that embodied our brand and mission as it relates to our audience; the merchants. The result was a branded campaign that relayed the stories of 3 merchants who champions of their brands. These include Kelty Outdoor, Skullcandy, and Jeni’s Ice Creams.

We 3 different representatives in from 3 different brands. Mark Hopkins, CIO of Skullcandy, Chloe Lewis, Design Manager at Kelty Outdoors, and Jenni Bauer, CEO & Founder of Jenni’s Splendid Ice Creams. We shot each subject and the studio and on location, taking them to areas that identified with their brands.

The digital aspect of the Make it Big campaign was key in reaching new audience members. We worked with digital marketing teams to test a variety of subject matter and formats for reaching participants. We learned more about what matters to our audience through every stage of the funnel and that they also respond best to beautiful imagery of ecommerce leaders and pets, haha.

The design team at BigCommerce found a new opportunity in branding an upcoming web series of interviews in the Make it Big Online Conference. Our blog editor and chief, Tracey Wallace, traveled through out the country, interviewing various ecommerce experts and industry leaders. The MIB Conference was and is an extension of the Make it Big campaign, diving deeper into the technical aspects of what it takes to succeeding ecommerce.

The MIB Conference was and is an extension of the Make it Big campaign, diving deeper into the technical aspects of what it takes to succeeding ecommerce.

One of the most exciting aspects of working on a true brand campaign is the opportunity to indulge in traditional print activities. We met with our storytellers, Jeni, Mark, and Chloe in the photo studio to execute on clean vignetted imagery for all of our advertisements. Working with the subjects in the studio gave the Design Lab team to opportunity to bring out the personality behind each of our storytellers, working with renowned Austin photographer, Chad Wadsworth. The photos were utilized in several ads we took out in Inc. and Fast Company magazines. The advertisements were further connected as we synced the launch of our print imagery, with digital ads on the periodicals’ websites.
